Rebels vs Simpson

Production from the entire line-up, good defense and pitching to contact produced a 9-4 win over Brighton's Cardinals(Simpson). Several players had a good night at the plate, highlighted by by a pair of triples from Kelyn Cope and Matthew Johnson. Lucas Baalman reached base in every at-bat for the second straight game. In the field, Cope and Baalman both started inning-ending double plays and Johnson made a couple of good catches in right field. On the mound, Tate Bohannon got the start and gave up a couple of unearned, first inning runs. Trevor Carpenter came on in the second and went the rest of the way. Carpenter didn't fool too many Cardinal batters, but was very efficient by throwing strikes and letting the defense make plays behind him.

Rebels vs Steckel

Walks...walks...walks. Numerous base-on-balls doomed the Rebels Tuesday in their game with Steckel. Final score 16-4. Starting pitcher Kelyn Cope pitched well, allowing only one run in his three innings of work. But, had to leave, leading 2-1, due to a high pitch count. A parade of relievers had trouble finding the plate and Steckel batters kept the bats on their shoulders awaiting the free pass. Offensivly, Lucas Baalman, Harry Arter, and Aaron Harding each reached base twice.

Practice Schedule

The Rebels outdoor practices have begun and, weather permitting, will be held through mid-May on the following schedule:

Mondays @ 5:30 pm at City Park Diamond A

Thursday @ 5:30 pm at City Park Diamond A

Right now Diamond A does not have a mound constructed and the bases are not yet out. If we feel the need for our pitchers to get used to working off a mound, we may shift practices to the Legion. For now, we'll stick with City Park.

When pratices are cancelled or moved we'll contact parents via e-mail or text message.

Baseball Mania

Rebels players are once again selling Baseball Mania tickets. Baseball Mania is the Jerseyville Little League fundraiser. Each ticket costs $20. Every ticket contains 17 different 3-team combinations. Prizes are awarded after each week and at the end of the season to the tickets whose teams score the most and fewest combined total runs. Ticket holders can check their ticket online each week at charitymania.com.

Jerseyville Little League receives $14 from every $20 ticket sold. The league has given each team that sells at least 25 tickets $2 for every ticket sold. The Rebels earned over $70 for tickets sold last year.

You can contact any Rebel player or parent to purchase tickets. Good luck.

Getting ready for 2009

After a Coaches-Parents meeting on Sunday, February 8th at the Susnig Center, it's time to look ahead to another season of Rebels Baseball. In 2009 we will compete in the 14 and under division as a first year team. The pitching distance increase to 60'6", and the distance between bases will be 90', just like the major leagues.

The season will start a little later than in the past. Our first league games may not start till late May.

Our roster looks a little different. Garryt Jones and Justin Phillps have decided not to play baseball this season and Lucas Obertino will stay in the 12 and under division. We are still looking for a couple players to fill out our roster. If you know someone that wants to be a Rebel let us know.

We will be able to use bigger bats this season. We would like to purchase one or maybe two good bats. We also may need to get a couple new uniforms for those outgrowing last years model and we will be getting new caps. This takes money. We hope to attract a sponsor or two to help out and we may participate in a team fundraiser. We're going to look into maybe selling Krispy Kreme doughnuts.

In the weeks ahead we're going to start hitting the batting cage. Outdoor practices will likely start in March. This year we'll have the use of Randy and Sara Carpenter's pitching machine too.
